Gynecomastia is due to increased volume of breast tissue or fat in the breast of a man.Appears in times of hormonal change such as childhood, adolescence and old age, but also in other age groups without apparent cause (idiopathic). Rarely medical conditions are involved that require investigation. 65% of adolescents show that at the age of 14-15 years, but only 8% still have it after 17 years. Candidates for surgery are patients in whom the problem does not go away after 2 years of its occurrence.

Another group of men in need of liposuction in the breast area are those who exercise their bodies a lot, the body builders. The well trained men often have the problem of gynecomastia and the only solution in this case is surgery because the fat and mammary gland developed in the region are resistant to any exercise for fat burning. Very often, therefore, the body builders resort to surgical repair of the problem, which sometimes may be due to medications.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and stay in the clinic is limited to 24 hours. Depending on the type of gynecomastia the type of surgery is selected. If the breast is composed mainly of fat and soft glandular tissue, a small section of about 0,5 cm is done and fat is removed with liposuction. Conversely, if mammary gland is abundant an incision is made in the lower limits of the nipple, the gland is removed surgically, and additional liposuction is done. In both cases, an oppressive packing is placed.

The oppressive packingwill be reinstated after the first change and will remain there for 3 weeks. The postoperative pain for both liposuction and excision is limited and controlled with common painkillers. After the first 2-3 days there is almost no restriction on mobility and the patient will return to daily work immediately. With the removal of slinging, all limitations are lifted, and patients can make even heavy exercise.
